About Me

Mr. Adam Ajis

BMedSc (Hons Physiol) MBChB MRCSEd FRCS (Tr & Orth)

Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon Specialising in Disorders of the Foot & Ankle

Do you dread putting on those work shoes in the morning because you know as the day goes on your feet will just become more and more painful? Does the shape of your toes now make it painful to wear closed footwear?

Are you a keen walker but have found that foot pain has stopped you enjoying our lovely countryside? Perhaps you are finding that you can’t walk the dog for as long as you used to? Have you had an injury to your ankle in the past that you just don’t feel you have fully recovered from but no one seems to take you seriously? Do you find that you just don’t trust your ankle anymore and it feels unsteady?

I understand it can be difficult to know what to do and you may be wondering if surgery is or isn’t the right thing for you.

Every day in clinic I meet people like yourself who are just trying to wear shoes without pain, get back to going for walks or return to the sport they love. I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Surgeon with clinics in Chichester, Worthing and Brighton. I specialise in helping people with foot deformities like bunions and hammer toes, painful foot arthritis, ankle arthritis, ankle instability and more.

Not every condition requires surgery but if it does – I can help. I am an expert in minimally invasive surgical treatments and also carry out non-surgical treatments like injections and shockwave therapy. Over the years I have helped thousands of people just like you with good results. I know that recovering from an operation can really get in the way of work and life so I try and offer minimally invasive solutions that have a faster recovery and allow a quicker return to normal. Sometimes minimally invasive isn’t possible but I have also carried out hundreds of procedures to correct large deformities as well as procedures to help arthritis to the ankle and foot.

My surgical training took place in the UK but I have also undertaken further international fellowship training in the US. If you are seeking an opinion about whether surgery might help your foot or ankle condition or if non-surgical treatments are available then do get in touch and book in to see me.

Training
Mr Ajis completed his higher surgical training in trauma and orthopaedic surgery in Cheshire/Merseyside, culminating in achieving Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons FRCS (Tr & Orth). Here he developed an interest in foot & ankle surgery and was awarded a place on one of the most sought after and highly regarded international foot & ankle training fellowships at the Institute for Foot & Ankle Reconstruction in the USA with Dr Mark Myerson. Following this, further fellowship training was undertaken with one of the most experienced foot & ankle surgeons in the UK, Mr Nicholas Geary. Being dual fellowship trained has meant that Mr Ajis is familiar with the latest cutting edge treatments with experience in complex foot & ankle reconstruction surgery, ankle replacement surgery, minimally invasive surgery (MIS) for the foot and for the ankle, arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery, platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapy, extra corporeal shockwave therapy, sports injuries, enhanced recovery regimes as well as bunion and lesser toe surgery.

He has delivered many educational presentations to surgeons at local, national and international meetings. He has led many audit projects that have resulted in safer surgery, improved patient outcomes and a significantly better patient experience. Mr Ajis constantly monitors his own practice keeping up to date, recording patient outcomes and acting on patient feedback.

Hear what our patients have to say

Mr Ajis is a great surgeon, he listens to any concern you may have and explains what is going to happen also gives great care... He suggested a fairly new procedure that wasn't available on the NHS but he pushed me through and he and his team have worked wonders, I am now healing very well and pain-free in my ankle after 6 years!

Written by a patient at BMI Goring Hall Hospital

Mr Ajis was very informative and reassuring about my surgery. He was professional at all times and allowed time for me to have all my questions answered without feeling rushed.

Written by a patient at BMI Goring Hall Hospital

I saw Mr Ajis after sustaining a fracture of my 5th metatarsal which had not healed after a year. The pain was unbearable. He saw me promptly and took the time to explain my condition with the help of x-ray images with assurances that he could fix the problem. I was advised by other clinicians to be patient and wait for the fracture to heal on its own. Mr Ajis said that healing would be highly unlikely without intervention. After numerous emails and 'phone calls to him he constantly...

...spent the time reassuring me and patiently going over the intended procedure. To date after seeking advice and guidance from Mr Ajis, his secretary and the Physio Team and the insertion of a plate my fracture has united I walk well, without pain and I have joined a walking group.
